Our project portfolio ranges from residential to commercial, through developing ideas with our clients Subheat aims to provide heating and cooling and provide sustainable and relaxing spaces to help create the ideal space.

Project Portfolio

Our portfolio encompasses all sectors of heating and cooling in the construction industry. We work with architects, consultants and M & E companies to provide our clients with a solution to match their requirements - from residential through to large scale developments. We can provide heating and cooling for almost every project.

Below are some recent projects carried out by our engineers:

Health

Cedars Care Home

The architect had very specific requirements relating to heat output provided by the underfloor heating system. His concern was driven by the use of an air source heat pump delivering low water temperatures to provide his client with a safe, sustainable and comfortable environment for the elderly residents. Our design department were able to allay his doubts by providing all relevant technical data at the design stage and demonstrate how the heating system would exceed his expectations.

Our underfloor heating system is designed specifically for low water temperatures to help maximise the energy saving potential of a heat pump - in this case an air source unit. Our heating system is designed to operate at 35°C with the ability to further reduce the heat source temperature via the buffer vessels, to enable even greater savings and reduce operating costs.

Education

George Farmer Technical College

Design parameters for this project were to provide a load-bearing concrete base and incorporate our underfloor heating system to optimise the energy saving potential provided by a heat pump. A high density pipe system was designed to enable the heat pump to work at maximum efficiency with the option to utilise our system for cooling in the summer months and provide an ideal environment for the students. The underfloor heating system was installed in a reinforced concrete slab floor prior and then power floated prior to the buildings construction.

By working closely with our clients at an early stage we can provide the most appropriate solution for that project, discuss issues that may occur relating to the planning and organisation and ensure that everyone achieves a successful installation.

Commercial / Office

Talking Point Conference Centre - formerly St. Pauls Church

Old buildings can be intrinsically flawed due to their poor levels of insulation - more so if the building is in an exposed location, as was the case of this former church. Our client's requirements for an underfloor heating system to provide staff with an ideal working environment required careful calculation to help maximise the heating system and provide minimum running costs.

We worked closely both with the main contractors and mechanical and electrical contractors to provide an ideal environment that not only delivered on performance but allowed the interior designers the freedom to create a stunning interior that has attracted numerous of their clients to return frequently and become a 'talking point'.

Leisure / Retail

Box End Ski Park

This Hotel/Restaurant and ski park was designed to use sustainable methods of energy saving, low carbon emissions and provide a unique environment which would be almost maintenance free. The building, set in 100 acres of green belt and located next to two lakes, is clad entirely in cedar from sustainable Canadian timber, with large amounts of high efficiency glazing. A low-impact solution was required, and the use of underfloor heating powered by ground source heat pumps was the natural choice.

The lakes at first appeared to be an excellent choice to provide the water source for the heat pumps but the use of an open-loop aquifer system proved to be the best solution - providing the energy to heat the property in the winter and cool the building passively during the summer,. This proved to be so effective that some Americans holidaying at the resort were under the impression that air-conditioning had been installed! In addition, the hotel bedrooms were built on timber joists and the architects concern about acoustic transmission was swiftly allayed, as we have a solution for all aspects of floor construction.

Residential

Bilberry Manor

This project was an existing building set in a stunning isolated location, but the client decided to strip the interior bare and start afresh with a modern look and an energy efficient solution to match it.

Working with his consultants' exacting requirements, we found the ideal solution of two ground source heat pumps using an open loop system. These also have the benefit of supplying fresh water for drinking and other uses.

Good project management and client liaison was essential with this design and build project, as changes were occurring on an almost daily basis. Subheat was always on hand to provide assistance from the initial consultation and provide support for the other traders, through to the final installation to help finish this project on time.
